Chapter notes
Genesis 2 The Garden of Eden
Summary
God sets apart the seventh day, and the account of humanity's creation is told in detail: formed from dust, given the breath of life, placed in Eden with one command, and given a companion in marriage.
Outline
- vv. 1–3: The seventh day, blessed and made holy
- vv. 4–17: The man, the garden, the command
- vv. 18–25: "It is not good for the man to be alone"; the two become one
Reflection
- The meaning of the Sabbath: God blessed it and made it holy; how do I keep it?
- Freedom and boundary: every tree except one.
- Marriage is God's design: the resolve to be one.
